Alarming Facts Most People Don’t Know About Fluoride

Advocates of fluoride say its use in municipal water systems poses no adverse health concerns, however results from investigations clearly state the opposite. There has been considerable research done on fluoride regarding cancer, birth defects, and risks to the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and urinary systems, however, very little has been done on its neurological effects. There are now serious facts and health risks regarding fluoridation which can no longer be ignored and the practice itself is being questioned by most of the world.

Alarming Facts Most People Don’t Know About Fluoride

The proponents of fluoride claim that it is saving us from tooth decay. But is it really good for us? What is fluoride?  Fluoride is an element from the halogen group, as are iodide and chloride. It is a waste by-product of the fertilizer and aluminum industry. It is commonly added to the water supply to fight tooth decay in children. The initial studies were done back in 1940s in order to demonstrate fluoride’s effectiveness as an anti-cavity fighting element.

Those conducted  studies are now looked at as of poor scientific quality. Dental fluorosis is recognized by scientists as one of the outcomes of fluoride poisoning. With the whooping 60% mark, America is on top of the list in Fluoride consumption. In comparison, 97% of western Europe has rejected fluoridated water because of the proven health risks.

Fluoride, a known suppressor of the thyroid gland, can bring about hypothyroidism in those with originally healthy glands. Hypothyroidism symptoms include lowered immunity, lowered levels of energy, reduced sex drive, and unexplained increase in weight.

Studies have found higher cancer rates in cities with fluoridated water than cities without. The higher cancer rates were more pronounced for those above 65 years in age.

How Fluoride lowers your IQ

A new study published in the Institute of Environmental Health Sciencesjournal Environmental Health Perspectives  has found that fluoride damages brain development and leads to significantly lower IQ levels in humans.

A 2008 Scientific American report stated that “Scientific attitudes toward fluoridation may be starting to shift” as new evidence revealed  the link between fluoride and disorders affecting, bones, teeth, the thyroid gland, and brain. The study also “Concluded that fluoride can subtly alter endocrine function, especially in the thyroid — the gland that produces hormones regulating growth and metabolism.”

Fluoride can be found not only in water and toothpaste, but also in processed foods made with fluoridated water. Next time you brush your teeth, take a look at the back label of your tooth paste. Most of the conventional toothpastes tell you to “contact a poison control center immediately” if you swallow your toothpaste. Really? And this is something that we use daily!
