These 65 Stores And Restaurants Have Pledged Not To Sell GMO Salmon

Although the genetically modified animal was recently given the green light by the US government, the market is steadily shrinking for the FrankenFish.  65 supermarkets and restaurants have pledged NOT to sell GM salmon, including Target, Giant Eagle, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods, and Costco.

Salmon is the first GM animal to be commercialized.  “AquAdvantage” salmon is produced by AquaBounty Technologies and has a growth hormone regulating gene inserted from a Pacific Chinook salmon and a promoter from an ocean pout.  The goal is a faster-growing fish.  While the FDA, unsurprisingly, has stated the salmon “would not have a significant impact on the U.S. environment,” studies are finding otherwise.
